You ride the drag road on a four-wheeler with the wall on your right hand. The line is
busy the whole shift — people on the bollards, people already over and running
north. Nobody stops. Not for the lights, not for the siren, not for you: the only
thing that stops anyone is the machine, so ride them down and they are in custody
where you catch them. One at a time, and the rest do not wait while you do it — they
run flat out. The siren buys you the gap: someone still on the bollards hears it and
climbs back down, and anyone already across and inside earshot breaks stride and
runs at under half speed while it is on. Dispatch calls the rest — sensor hits,
groups, seizures, breaches, and rescue beacons, which pay the most and wait the
least. Watch the gas: red drums sit near the road, and the brush north of the wash
breaks into low rises worth the climb for what you can see from the top.
